Course Content

The course trains and assesses users in 4 key areas: Maths for Clinicians, Medication Calculations, ‘Rights’ of Administration and critical thinking case studies.

1. Maths for Clinicians

Video lectures, text resources and thousands of randomly generated questions on three difficulty levels comprehensively teach and assess in the following topic areas:

  • The Metric System
  • Fractions
  • Ratios
  • Percentages
  • Decimals

2. Medication Calculations

Video lectures, text resources and thousands of randomly generated questions on three difficulty levels comprehensively teach and assess in the following topic areas:

  • Tablets and Capsules
  • Oral Liquids
  • Injections
  • Infusions: mL/h, drops/min, units/h, microg/kg/min
  • Paediatric Dosages: Injections, oral liquids

3. The ‘Rights’ of Administration

Video lectures, text resources and thousands of randomly generated questions on three difficulty levels comprehensively teach and assess in the following topic areas:

  • Right Route
  • Right Drug
  • Right Dose
  • Right Time
  • Right Patient
  • Right Documentation
  • Right Reason
  • Right Education
  • Right Response
  • Right to Refuse

4. Critical thinking Clinical Case Studies

Complex critical thinking, scenario based case studies require the user to focus on identifying associated medication high risk ‘error prone’ areas. Users are required to review all information available to them within the case study e.g. Past Medical History, NMC, Observation chart, Care Plan and investigations. The user is then required to work through eight tasks and identify key potential areas of medication error – these include: allergies, contraindications, non-therapeutic doses, co-morbidities, recognising that certain medicines require patient observations/assessment immediately prior, during and/or following administration and correct documentation and management of withheld medicines. All case studies are largely based on actual adverse events observed in Australian clinical practice.
